We invite you to join us this summer at the Rencontres Musicales Internationales des Graves, a two-week academy and festival that brings together talented young musicians and internationally recognized artists in the heart of the Bordeaux wine region.
You’ll enjoy an inspiring mix of artistic excellence and cultural exchange — study, rehearse, and perform in a warm, supportive environment that celebrates both music and friendship.
The summer academy welcomes young professionals and students from conservatories and music schools.
The Academy Experience :
- 2 full weeks on site at the beautiful gated Moulerens vacation village (15 minutes from Bordeaux, France)
- 6 private lessons
- optional workshops (4 sessions each) – choose one* : chamber music, baroque interpretation, jazz & improvisation… * 2 may be permitted with Academy appoval
- Public student recital ( following the professor’s recommendation )
- Open Access to concerts of the Musique en Graves festival

Introduction to baroque music
Professor : Lydia Becker
The mechanics of music have changed over time, following the natural development of any living language. In this course, students will explore the basics of historical performance practices, including notation, ornamentation, and general 17th and 18th century musical aesthetics.
A Public Masterclass with Max Zorin, violin – by audition only
Max Zorin, an internationally recognized violinist, Associate Professor of Violin at Penn State University, and Artistic Director of the Musique en Graves festival, gives a public masterclass open to all Academy students.
Each participant works live in front of the teacher, with the opportunity to observe and learn from the other students’ sessions as well. A privileged, unpretentious moment with one of the leading artists behind the festival.
Improvisation / Jazz :
Professeur : Vincent Balse
This elective invites students to explore improvisation, regardless of their instrument. Over the sessions, they work on listening, harmonic language, and taking risks in music : stepping away from the score to build in the moment. No prior jazz experience is necessary to sign up.
Trad Music
Professeur : Lydia Becker
This elective is dedicated to cultivating a creative space for students to have fun with music. In these sessions, students will learn traditional fiddle tunes by ear and learn ways to accompany melodies free from notated music, including shuffling, chopping, and other non-classical techniques. All instruments are welcome, and no previous experience is necessary to sign up.
MUSIC ACADEMY LOCATION
Château de Moulerens, 2 Rue de Pichey – 33170 GRADIGNAN, FRANCE
Situated on a large gated campus, 10km from Bordeaux, the Château De Moulerens offers a favorable place for practice, study and relaxing surrounded by a spacious wooded park. Students with full board enjoy individual rooms with private bath, three meals a day, access to a gym, tennis court, soccer field, and an olympic swimming pool.
PRATICAL DETAILS
ACCOMODATIONS :
Individual rooms.
Simple, welcoming and comfortable rooms with views of the forest and equipped with private full bath, bedding, closet, desk and flat-screen TV. On the day of departure the linens must be placed in the trolleys provided for this purpose.
Full board restoration. Three traditional European meals per day prepared by a French chef ( self-service ).
Access to a gym, tennis court, soccer field, and an olympic swimming pool.

* Room keys that are not returned will incur a fee of 30€. Please keep the rooms clean and respectful of the staff in charge of receiving the rooms.
A fee of 50€ may be applied for additional cleaning service if deemed necessary by the staff.
