Born in 1979 in the Bordeaux region, Julien-David Petit began his musical training at the age of six with the clarinet. He continued his studies at the CNR of Bordeaux with Jacques Net, then at the National Superior Conservatory of Paris in the classes of Claude Delangle, Nicolas Angelich, Jean Mouillère and Marie-Françoise Bucquet, where he obtained his First Prizes in saxophone and chamber music. Winner of the most prestigious International Competitions for saxophone, including 2nd Prize at the Adolphe Sax International Competition in Dinant (Belgium), 3rd Prize at the ARD International Competition in Munich, and prize-winner at the International Competitions of Bayreuth, Limoges, Gap…, he has been invited to perform in concerts and festivals in numerous countries throughout Europe, Canada, the USA, Asia, Russia, and has performed as a soloist with the National Orchestra of Bogota, the Hofer Symphoniker at the Bayreuth Opera, the Bavarian Radio Orchestra, the Royal Chamber Orchestra of Wallonia, the Belgian Royal Air Force Band, the Republican Guard Orchestra, the Krasnoyarsk Philharmonic Orchestra…
Several musical programs have been dedicated to him, notably on Radio France, Radio Classique, RTL, France Inter, France 2, and Mezzo. He is also a laureate of the Natexis Foundation Groupe Banque Populaire, recipient of the Tremplin Jeune Selmer scholarship, named a « Revelation » by Classica magazine in 2003, and released his first album in 2004, « La escapada » with pianist Vincent Balse, featuring music by Manuel De Falla, Isaac Albéniz, and H. Villa-Lobos (Lyrinx label). At the request of Karlheinz Stockhausen, Julien-David Petit recorded « Saxophon, » a solo album featuring new pieces for saxophone by the composer, several of which were created and dedicated to him (Stockhausen edition).
Numerous encounters and collaborations with renowned musicians such as Avi Avital, Frank London, Nemanja Radulović, Alexandre Brussilovsky, Markus Stockausen, Giora Feidmann… have enabled him to explore a wide repertoire and develop a strong identity on the soprano saxophone. Julien-David Petit was a member of the saxophone quartet Carré-Mêlé (3rd Prize FNAPEC, Grand Prize of the Forum de Normandie) with which he recorded « Saxophones et Sémaphores » featuring creations by Breton composers Didier Squiban, Antoine Hervé, Roland Becker, and Benoît Menut (distributed by Harmonia Mundi).
Also passionate about traditional Klezmer music and Oriental music, he recorded « Mosaïque » with cellist Béatrice Reibel-Petit and the trio Klezele, an album blending classical and Klezmer music (2007, Intégral distribution). In the same spirit, he created a musical show « Une voix dans le désert » (A Voice in the Desert), combining music, dance, sand drawing, and spatial staging; this was the subject of a 2008 tour across Russia from Moscow to Vladivostok. With the trio Klezele, he released « Freyleh from Vladivostok » in 2009 (Intégral distribution).
Pedagogy is an integral part of his musical activity; he regularly teaches master classes at venues such as the Festival International des Graves, the European University of Gap, the Habanera Academy, and in Madrid, Cologne, Glasgow, Tokyo, Moscow, Paris… Holder of the CA (Certificate of Aptitude), he teaches chamber music at the CRR of Aubervilliers and receives French and foreign students each year who come to perfect their training and prepare for entry into the professional world. Julien-David Petit is a Selmer artist.
Né en 1979 dans la région bordelaise, c’est à l’âge de six ans et par la clarinette que Julien-David Petit commence son apprentissage musical. Il poursuit ses études au CNR de Bordeaux avec Jacques Net puis au Conservatoire National Supérieur de Paris dans les classes de Claude Delangle, Nicolas Angelich, Jean Mouillère et Marie-Françoise Bucquet, où il obtient ses Premiers Prix de saxophone et de musique de chambre.
Lauréat des plus prestigieux Concours Internationaux pour saxophone, dont le 2ème Prix du Concours International Adolphe Sax à Dinant (Belgique), le 3ème Prix du Concours International de l’ARD de Munich, Lauréat du Concours International de Bayreuth, Limoges, Gap…, il est l’invité de concerts et festivals dans de nombreux pays en Europe, au Canada, aux USA, en Asie, en Russie, et se produit en soliste avec l’orchestre National de Bogota, le Hofer Symphoniker à l’opéra de Bayreuth, l’Orchestre de la Radio Bavaroise, l’Orchestre Royal de chambre de Wallonie, la Force Royale Aérienne Belge, l’Orchestre de la Garde Républicaine, l’orchestre philharmonique de Krasnoïarsk…
Plusieurs émissions musicales lui ont été consacrées, notamment sur Radio France, Radio Classique, RTL, France Inter, France 2, et Mezzo.

Sollicité par Karlheinz Stockhausen, Julien-David Petit enregistre « Saxophon », disque en soliste comprenant de nouvelles pièces pour saxophone du compositeur, dont plusieurs créations lui ont été dédiées (ed.Stockhausen).
De nombreuses rencontres et collaborations avec des musiciens de renom comme Avi Avital, Frank London, Nemanja Radulović, Alexandre Brussilovsky, Markus Stockausen, Giora Feidmann… lui permettent d’explorer un répertoire large et de développer une identité forte au saxophone soprano. Julien-David Petit a été membre du quatuor de saxophones Carré-Mêlé (3ème Prix de la FNAPEC, Grand Prix du Forum de Normandie) avec lequel il a enregistré « Saxophones et Sémaphores » autour de créations de compositeurs bretons, Didier Squiban, Antoine
Hervé, Roland Becker, Benoît Menut (distribué chez Harmonia Mundi).
Passionné également par la musique traditionnelle Klezmer et les musiques orientales, il enregistre avec la violoncelliste Béatrice Reibel-Petit et le trio Klezele, « Mosaïque », disque métissé de musique savante et Klezmer (2007, chez Intégral distribution). Dans le même esprit, il réalise un spectacle musical « Une voix dans le désert », alliant musique, danse, dessin sur sable, et mise en espace ; ce fut en 2008 l’objet d’une tournée à travers
la Russie de Moscou à Vladivostok. Avec le trio Klezele, il sort en 2009 « Freyleh from Vladivostok » (Intégral distribution).
La pédagogie fait partie intégrante de son activité musicale, il intervient régulièrement en tant que professeur lors de master-classes comme au Festival International des Graves, à l’Université européenne de Gap, à l’Académie Habanera, à Madrid, Cologne, Glasgow, Tokyo, Moscou, Paris…
Titulaire du CA, il enseigne la musique de chambre au CRR d’Aubervilliers et reçoit chaque année des élèves français et étrangers venant parfaire leur formation et préparant leur entrée dans le milieu professionnel. Julien-David Petit est artiste Selmer.
